Tim's Blog: Why Life Groups Matter
I’m not in a Life Group because…
- The whole idea seems weird
- I find it hard to get to know new people
- It will be awkward
- I don’t know what to expect
- I don’t know enough about God
- I don’t know if I even believe in God
- I already have enough friends
- I don’t fit in, they aren’t like me
- I don’t have the time
- I tried one and it wasn’t for me
What if I told you that you could be in a Life Group and all of those things can still be true? Not exactly a great sales pitch for Life Groups, is it? It is true, though. Many people who are in Life Groups today have had these thoughts or are having these thoughts right now. Is one of these arguments the reason you aren’t in a Life Group? I still have some of these feelings about groups now, and this is my full-time gig! If you enter into a group knowing that someone in the group is probably sharing some of those same thoughts, it can be a whole lot easier to relate to one another. You are not the only one who doesn’t have the time or is worried it may be awkward.
Join a Life Group with your reasons in hand and an open mind. An open mind to learning more about Jesus alongside someone else who is also trying to figure it all out. Will all of your concerns immediately vanish? No, probably not. However, along this journey the concerns fade as we recognize that in spite of them we were made for this.
Hebrews 10:24-25
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.
Join us for groupconnect on Sunday, February 23rd at 12:30pm in The Hub. Lunch and childcare are provided. Sign up to join us here.
